OP Labs PBC, formerly known as Optimism PBC, is bringing Web2 usability to Web3 apps. Built by Ethereum developers, for Ethereum developers, OP Labs is the only secure decentralized blockchain infrastructure specifically intended to optimize and scale Ethereum. OP Labs develops open-source codebase software and operates optimistic L2 rollups to ensure Ethereum maintains the three central properties of blockchain: decentralization, security, and scalability.

OP Labs can be seen as an extension of Ethereum, from its philosophy down to its tech stack. They promote the growth and sustainability of public goods, through Retroactive Public Goods Funding, never to be captured by private commercial interests. They aim to make transacting on Ethereum affordable and accessible to everyone.

Backed by a16z and Paradigm, OP Labs has raised over $175M in funding, ensuring multiple years of runway, and is looking for a VP of Engineering to support emerging phases of growth.

Roles and Responsibilities

As a member of the leadership reporting to the CEO, Jinglan Wang, the VP of Engineering will lead our technical teams and shape the strategic direction of our engineering efforts. This pivotal role will guide our evolution into a scalable platform, enabling us to meet the demands of a growing customer base while driving innovation in blockchain technology.

What are the role responsibilities?

  • Strategic Leadership:

    • Guide and mentor engineering leaders, fostering a culture of growth and excellence.

    • Set the technical vision and align engineering efforts with organizational goals.

  • Technical Expertise:

    • Oversee the design of critical system components and evaluate emerging technologies.

    • Conduct technical reviews, optimize engineering practices, and support security assessments.

  • Decentralized Development:

    • Develop processes to enable open-source contributors to deliver secure, high-quality code across the OP-Stack ecosystem.

  • Operational Excellence:

    • Implement tools and processes to enhance engineering efficiency and ensure consistent delivery.

    • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to maintain a high-performance engineering environment.

  • Collaboration & Communication:

    • Work closely with cross-functional teams, including product management and DevOps, to ensure cohesive architecture and best practices.

    • Serve as a technical leader, bridging engineering efforts with broader organizational strategies.

What You Bring:

  • 15+ years of experience in engineering leadership roles, preferably within the blockchain or cryptocurrency sectors.

  • Proven track record of successfully delivering complex technical projects, from ideation to production.

  • Deep understanding of software architecture, design principles, and development best practices.

  • Expertise in Ethereum, the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM), and Layer 2 scaling technologies preferred.

  • Experience managing open-source projects and fostering contributor communities is a strong advantage preferred.

  • A commitment to security and a passion for protecting and advancing the Ethereum ecosystem.
